The Pioneer Apartments is a new mixed-use building consisting of 36 affordable apartments for singles and families, as well as offices for Wesley Family Services and 125 providers of social services. This project will serve to anchor the revitalization of New Kensington.

The residential portion of the Pioneer Apartments is a four-story wood frame structure with brick and siding exterior finishes. The 36 units consist of one, two, and three bedrooms. Several of the units have mobility and hearing/visual accessibility to accommodate those who may have a disability or special need. All units have full-size kitchens. This portion of the project was designed to Passive House Standards and was funded by Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).

The commercial portion is a two-story wood frame structure of conventional construction and was financed by New Market Tax Credits.

This building is energy efficient and has been designated as a LEED Gold Facility.
